Canvas: Readings & Resources: Overview

Benefits of Readings & Resources

Readings & Resources is Canvas tool that organizes your course materials and tracks and encourages student engagement.

  • Organize all readings and resources in one place
  • Add library resources and course reserves directly from inside your Canvas course
  • Monitor student engagement with analytics
  • Add instructor notes and discussion boards for individual readings
  • Share your reading lists across other courses and instructors
  • Reuse your reading lists in future semesters
  • Maintain copyright compliance

Enable Readings & Resources

  1. Go to Settings in your Canvas course
  2. Choose the Navigation menu
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page. Grab Readings & Resources. Drag and Drop it in the navigation menu.
  4. Save

Create a Reading List

Go to Readings & Resources and Create a new reading list from scratch. Image of going to Readings & Resources and Create a new reading list.

 

Give the list a title then click on the Create button.

Pick a template. You can have a blank list, or a list broken up into weekly readings, required and recommended readings, or numbered modules.

Add Items

After you set up the Reading List, you're ready to add items. You can use the Course List button in Library Search or add items directly in Canvas.
