Go to the Wikipedia main page
In the top, right hand corner, click create account
Create a username and password. For more information on usernames, see Wikipedia's username policy.
Enter your email
Complete the security check
Click create your account
Click on start the user:*YourUserName* page
Read the notices window (don't draft articles on your user page)
Write something in your user page. Try linking other Wikipedia pages and playing with the formatting options.
Publish your page!
A box will come up asking you to write a summary of what you changed. Add a simple summary like "creating user page" and publish your page.
Click the person icon, and select the sandbox option.
The sandbox is a giant black space just for you to practice editing. It's a place to experiment and learn without the pressure of working on a public page.
Working with our discussion board posts from last class, copy the original Wiki text you want to edit and paste it in your sandbox.
Practice integrating the new information, remembering the writing conventions we discussed.
Practice citing the source you added in your sandbox by clicking on the cite option. Make sure your mouse is at the end of the sentence that you added.
Select what type of source it is.
Scroll through the fields on the side to make sure that everything is included in the citation.
Select insert in the upper right hand corner.
