FactSet: Getting Started: Overview

Access FactSet

• Provides data and analytics on global equity and fixed income markets

First Time Users

FactSet is restricted to SMU students, faculty, and staff and requires an account.

• Apply for an account and a Business Librarian will review your request.
• Accounts expire upon graduation. 
• FactSet cannot be used for internships or employment.

Mac users

The desktop version of FactSet does not work with Macs; however, the online version does and will also work with Excel Online. You will need to do the following before you can install and use FactSet:

1. Request an appointment with SMU IT Help Desk to install VirtualBox and Windows 10 on your Mac. 
2. You will receive a confirmation email from IT with some additional steps that you’ll need to follow in advance of the appointment.
3. OIT will install VirtualBox and Windows 10, which will allow FactSet to run from the Windows side on your Mac.

FactSet Certification

The FactSet Essentials Certification is a self-paced, e-learning course with five modules: Core Products, Derivative Products, Productivity Suite, Portfolio Analysis and Universal Screening.
