Library Information for New Law Students: Printing

Printing Allottment

Students receive 1500 pages per year.

If you go over your limit, contact Interim Director, Cassie Walker at cassiewalker@smu.edu. Adjustments are only made for special situations, such as serving as a research assistant in your 2L or 3L year.

Printing to an SMU Printer

We have five public printers in the library, all able to print, copy, and scan. Printing is managed through SMU's PaperCut system.

Ways to send your print job:

  1. Public workstations in the library or labs (best for files over 10MB).
  2. Email your file to the printer (from your SMU email; file under 10MB).
  3. Upload via a web browser (files under 10MB).

After you submit your job, you can release it from any public printer that supports the format you need—for example, color jobs can be released from any campus color printer.

Note: Students and guests pay for any copy/print jobs done in public spaces.

Printing with Lexis

Lexis lets you print for free on its own printers located in the library’s computer lab—a smart way to save your 1,500-page “free” printing allotment.

To use them, choose “LIBRARY 2ND FLOOR” or “LIBRARY 3RD FLOOR” from the Lexis print options.

Have a Question?

Scanning

All library printers can copy and scan.

We also have a KIC Bookeye 4 scanner- perfect for overhead scanning of open books- available for free.

You'll find it in the 3rd floor printer room.
