General Format

Notes: 

  • A References page at the end of the document has full citations in alphabetical order formatted with a hanging indent. 

Rules for multiple-authors:

  • If there are one to two authors, list all of them in the References and in the in-text citation. 
  • If there are three to six authors, list all of them in the References; in the in-text citation, list only the first, followed by et al. (“and others”).
  • If there are more than six authors, list the first three in the References, followed by et al.; in the in-text citation, list only the first, followed by et al

Journal Articles

Last Name, First Name. Publication Year. "Article Title." Italicized Journal Title volume number (issue number or month): page numbers. DOI or Name of Database in Title Case.

Magazine or Newspaper Articles

What Is a DOI?

A Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is an alphanumeric string that provides a persistent link to content online. It is good practice to try to include a DOI for every citation accessed electronically.
