Cite in ASA Style: References: Articles

General Format

Last name, First name, and First name Last name. Year of Publication. "Title of Article." Journal Volume(Issue):Pages. doi: (if available).

Notes: 

  • Use the heading REFERENCES, centered, and all reference entries are alphabetized, double-spaced, and with a hanging indent.
  • List all authors of a publication, up to 10. If there are more than 10, list the first 7 and then et al
  • Include as much of the date as you can find. 
  • A DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is a stable URL. Look up a DOI here.

Last name, First name. Year. "Title of Article." Section title, Title of Magazine/Newspaper, month day. URL.

Notes:
  • Eliminate the volume and issue, but include the URL if available. 
  • Include as much of the date as you can find. 
  • If the article is labeled as coming from a specific section, such as Reviews, Technology, or Editorial, include that between the article and magazine/newspaper title.

What Is a DOI?

A Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is an alphanumeric string that provides a persistent link to content online. It is good practice to try to include a DOI for every citation accessed electronically.
