Research Assignment Design: Evaluating Student Work

Reviewing Student Research

Are the selected sources pertinent?

  • What demonstrates that these sources are the most germane selections, rather than what a database determined was relevant based on the search strategy?
  • Does the research contribute to scholarly conversations on this topic?
  • Are there any glaring omissions?

Does the student engage with the research process?

  • Is there evidence of authentic learning?
  • Do the chosen resources demonstrate a reflective research process, indicating iterative searching, refinement of the topic, or an exploration of a variety of tools and search techniques?

Does the student connect with sources?

  • What evidence is there of comprehension of a source in its entirety?
  • Are sources used in conversation and complement each other?
  • Are sources integrated and cited appropriately?
