U.S. Census Data: Overview

What is the Census?

The Census Bureau is a U.S. government agency that collects data about the nation's people, economy, and government. The most well known data is the Decennial Census of Population and Housing, but there are more than 130 surveys and programs that collect a wide range of data. For example, the American Community Survey is an annual survey with detailed population and housing.
