Sociology and related databases

Search for articles on your topic in one of the following online databases. Or visit our Online Resources page for more options. To find the full text of an article in a database look for the words "PDF full text" or "HTML full text". If you do not see these options, click on the     button to see if your article is available in one of our other databases.  If it isn’t, click on Search the library catalog by title to see if we subscribe to the journal in print.

  • SocIndex with Full Text
    Offers comprehensive coverage of sociology, encompassing all sub-disciplines and closely related areas of study. These include abortion, criminology & criminal justice, demography, ethnic & racial studies, gender studies, marriage & family, political sociology, religion, rural & urban sociology, social development, etc.
  • Social Sciences Citation Index
    SSCI is part of the Web of Science database. Multidisciplinary index to the journal literature of the social sciences. It fully indexes more than 1,725 journals across 50 social sciences disciplines, and it indexes individually selected, relevant items from over 3,300 of the world's leading scientific and technical journals.
  • PsycINFO
    Contains citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books, dissertations, and technical reports, in the field of psychology and the psychological aspects of related disciplines, such as medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology, physiology, linguistics, anthropology, business, and law.
  • Academic Search Complete
    Scholarly, multidisciplinary database providing indexing and abstracts for over 10,000 publications, including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, and others. Also includes full-text access to over 5,000 journals.

American Sociological Association citation style

American Sociological Association Style Guide (4th ed. 2010) is available in Fondren permanent reserve (along with the MLA, APA and other style guides).  Ask at the Fondren central desk.

    Collection of bibliographic and full text content, including indexing and abstracts for scholarly business journals back to 1886. Also includes searchable cited references for more than 1,200 journals and detailed author profiles for the 20,000 most-cited authors in the database. Additional full text, non-journal content includes financial data, books, monographs, major reference works, book digests, conference proceedings, case studies, investment research reports, industry reports, market research reports, country reports, company profiles, SWOT analyses and more
  • EconLit
    This resource is limited to 4 simultaneous users. American Economic Association's electronic bibliography of economic literature. EconLit is an expanded version of the Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) indexes of journals, books, and dissertations.
    Use the Advanced Search screen to narrow by discipline, allowing searches to be performed only in Sociology journals. Provides image and full-text online access to back issues of selected scholarly journals, including many journals back to first date of publication. Consult the online tables of contents for holdings, as coverage varies for each title.
