Find Case Law

Case law is judicial interpretations of statutory or regulatory law based on a specific court case. Only new interpretations or first impressions of a law are published as case law.

  • West Headnotes outline the major points of law for a case and link to other cases on the same topic.
  • To find opinions authored by a specific justice, look for the Judge filter on the cases results page.
  • Look for red flags next to case law that indicate that at least one point of law is no longer good. Click the Negative Treatment tab.
