This guide is intended to be a starting point for researchers who wish to examine pictorial representations of death and the demonic within printed materials. "Demonic" is not a well-defined term within Christianity so this guide encompasses a wide range of imagery including apocalyptic iconography and personifications of death as well as the more clear cut representations.
Each genre tab includes a brief introduction and explanation of the subcategories, helpful keywords for independent catalog searches, and the list of relevant Special Collections resources.
Initial Search Terms: woodcut; ill.; engraving; iconography

The items listed here present scholars the unique opportunity to access rare primary sources first hand. The ability to examine original materials free from outside interpretation is an essential part of improving and impacting contemporary scholarship. Bridwell's exceptional Special Collections department is easily accessible, enabling students, faculty, and the public to conduct research, develop interests, or simply explore the wide variety of medieval and early modern materials available.
