International Arts Organizations: Search Strategies

Strategies for Finding International Information

Journal articles: The library journal article databases have international coverage. Look for a limiter by geography in order to find results for a particular area.

Use the general Library Search or one of the recommended databases for Arts Management, links below.

Statistics and demographics: Typically, the best place to look is with individual governmental agencies. Perform a Google search to find the agency for that country, and then search within the agency's site.

Cultural policy: Start with the directory of cultural policies from around the world or with the Compendium of Cultural Policies and Trends in Europe. You can also find links to government agency publications in the IFACCA Information Exchange. Find articles on international cultural policy in the Journal of Cultural Management and Policy or in the International Journal of Arts Management. Check out the European Expert Network on Culture.

Regional arts activity: Start with the national arts agency,  You may find out about specific projects that have been funded. Look for blogs where people might post about local activity. You might also find out about cultural activity on individual cities' websites. You may be able to discover arts statistics by region through national statistical agencies.
