JOUR 4316: Media Law & Ethics: Citation

Use APA Style

For this project, Prof. Vera-Phillips prefers APA style. You can use the automatically-generated citations provided in databases for starters. BUT they often have errors! Check them and correct them using the examples on our SMU-created APA Style Guide

Legal Citations in APA

APA doesn't cover citation of law cases very well, but we can adapt it. Use a citation like this as a model:

Case from a free website

Name of Court. (Date of publication). Title of case. Name of hosting website. DOI or stable URL if available

U.S. Supreme Court. (2021). Mahanoy Area School District v. B.L. Justia. https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/594/20-255/

Case from a subscription database, like Westlaw Campus Research

Name of Court. (Date of publication). Title of case. Retrieved from Database Name. DOI or stable URL if available

U.S. Supreme Court. (2021). Mahanoy Area School District v. B. L. Retrieved from Westlaw Campus Research.
