Collaboration is about setting and communicating expectations. It is best to set such expectations up front rather than trying to set them after months of hard work and frustration.

• Many researchers create a document to share and agree upon the expectations for the research project.
• These agreements cover such concepts as how and how frequently collaborators will communicate and/or meet, where and how data and shared documents will be stored, what deadlines will be met, and more.
