ATLA Religion Database: Overview

Why Should I Use ATLA?

The ATLA Religion Database is the best, or sometimes the only, source for finding peer-reviewed scholarly articles and essays in religion and theology.

Searching Tips

  1.  Start with a broad search, such as Christology, Genesis, or hymns. You can narrow your search using more terms later if needed.
  2. There are two primary ways of searching in ATLA. If you are starting from a particular biblical text, use the Scripture search. If not, use a Keyword search.
  3. Focus your search by narrowing results using the filters on the left.

Refine Results to limit to full text, peer reviewed, or open access; shows filters for publication date, source types, subject, publication, publisher, and language.
