Resources Available To Law Students After Graduation: Overview

SMU Provided Software & Services

SMU email	Active indefinitely as long as SMU uses the Microsoft email service
my.SMU	Active indefinitely with a limited set of permissions
Box	Active for a minimum of 365 days after leaving the University
PaperCut Printing	Active as long as the account is used at least once every 24 months
SMU VPN LinkedIn Learning Zoom Office ProPlus (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive)	Access expires after graduation

Lexis

Lexis
Your Lexis access remains unchanged through December 31, 2023. No registration is required, there are no restrictions, and no limits on your research time.
ASPIRE program
Provides 12 months of free access to federal and state cases, codes, regulations, law reviews, Shepard's® Citation Service and Matthew Bender® treatises to graduates who are engaged in verifiable 501(c)(3) public interest work.

Westlaw

Graduation Elite Access Extension
Graduates can access Westlaw and Practical Law for six months after graduation. You must request a Graduation Elite Access Extension. “Grad Elite” access provides sixty hours of usage per month for educational, non-commercial purposes only.

West Academic Study Aids

Texas State Law Library
Texas residents who register online for a Texas State Law Library card receive access to West Academic's hornbooks, nutshells, and other e-books on a variety of legal subjects from administrative law to workers compensation.

Bloomberg Law

Bloomberg Law
If you already have a Bloomberg Law account, your access will continue for six months after graduation (November 31, 2023 for May graduates). If you do not have an account, visit Bloomberg Law’s website, click on the “Academic Registration” link, and complete the registration form. Bloomberg Law will respond within 24-48 hours.

HeinOnline

Texas State Law Library
Texas residents who register online for a Texas State Law Library card receive full-text HeinOnline access to many legal journals, periodicals, government documents, and other legal titles.

Texas Lawbook

Texas Lawbook
This electronic-only publication focuses "on lawyers who represent businesses in litigation, transactional and regulatory matters in Texas." SMU law students have access for one year after graduation.

To register, visit the website and click on the "Subscribe" button in the upper right corner. Complete the brief registration form with your SMU email address and a Texas Lawbook staff member will process your request.

Fastcase

Texas State Law Library
Texas residents who register online for a Texas State Law Library card receive access to Fastcase. This database provides coverage of case law, statutes, constitutions, regulations, court rules, attorney general opinions, administrative opinions and orders for all state and federal jurisdictions.
Texas State Bar Fastcase Access
Members of the State Bar of Texas receive free access to Fastcase.
